Steps to Unlock Your WeChat Pay Account

Over the past few days, many people have reported that they are facing difficulties using their Wechat Pay balance, the most common problem is that the system asks users to add 2 bank cards for identity verification.
Both bank cards must be registered in the Chinese mainland.

Contrary to the notion that this only happened to foreigners, we have found that it has happened to Chinese users as well.

Why?
Unknowingly to many, WeChat and Weixin are two separate mobile applications, with WeChat serving overseas users while Weixin serves domestic users. This is overlooked by many since all you have to do is change the language and the apps will switch between the two automatically.
A good example to understand this is by reffering to Douyin (domestic) and Tiktok (international). But Tencent (the parent company of Weixin and WeChat) have made it easy to swith between the two.
Unlike Douyin vs TikToK, Tencent has not set regional restrictions to using the apps even if you are not physically on the locale that you set it. Furthermore, you can still interact with other users of the other app (let's say you use WeChat, you can still interact with Weixin users.)
But since November 1st, China has implemented strict rules and regulations on user data and privacy laws that have changed everything. The latest restrictions on WeChat and Weixin users reflect enforcing these measures to comply with local regulations. Albeit, the cases are only subject to WeChat Pay users.
Cases:
Case 1: I can pay using WeChat Pay through my bank account, but I can't receive or transfer money using my WeChat Pay's balance.
Case 2: I can't access my balance, and can't pay or receive money using both bank card and WeChat Pay balance.
Case 3: I can't add a second bank account because it says "ID Information Do Not Match".
The cases above are the ones that our users have reported.
Solutions:
There is no universal solution to this, but most of the people were able to reclaim their balance using solution 1 below.
Solution 1
This solution has solved problems for a high number of users and that is why we put it at first.
-Add a second bank card.
-If adding a second bank card didn't work, then go to solution number 2.
Solution 2
Note: This solution will delete all WeChat Pay activities associated with your account, including transaction history.
Deactivate and then activate your WeChat Pay account by following the steps below:
Withdraw all the money from WeChat Pay balance to your bank card.
Cancel all services associated with WeChat Pay (such as Auto-Deduction Services.)
Unbind bank card(s) associated with your WeChat Pay.
Click the three dots on the top-right corner of WeChat Pay page. (See the image below.)
Choose "Cancel WeChat Pay"
On the first page of WeChat Pay, you will now see "REAL NAME NOT VERIFIED" below Wallet. (See image below.)
Click on "Wallet" and choose "ID Info (Real-name Authentication)" and add your information as well as a bank card.
If you passed all the steps above, your wallet must be ready for use. Some people reported that they still have problems after these steps.
This might be caused by the change in passport or phone number linked to your bank account. Make sure that all the information you provide to WeChat are exactly the same as the one on your bank account.
